Conception Vitamin & Mineral Tablets

7.7/10 overall

£12.99 (30 tablets)

The UK's best-selling conception supplement — 400mcg folic acid plus zinc and vitamin D for both partners trying to conceive.

Reviewed by SepehrNot yet hands-on tested — based on research & published specs

This is a once-a-day tablet with no faff attached: 400mcg folic acid, zinc, vitamin D and a spread of standard trying-to-conceive nutrients in one dose, formulated for the person carrying, with a companion "Pregnacare Him" product available for partners who want to cover their own zinc and fertility-relevant nutrients too. Because it is stocked in every UK pharmacy and supermarket, it is also the easiest conception supplement to actually keep taking — running out on a Tuesday is not a crisis when you can pick more up on the way home.

Compared with Wild Nutrition's Fertility Support, the difference comes down to formulation philosophy and price rather than headline nutrient coverage. Pregnacare uses standard synthetic folic acid and zinc forms that are well studied and NHS-familiar, at roughly a third of the cost. Wild Nutrition uses food-grown, whole-food nutrient forms that a meaningful number of people find gentler on the stomach — genuinely relevant if you have struggled with nausea or found other prenatals hard to tolerate. If you have no history of sensitivity to standard vitamins, that premium buys you very little extra.

This is the sensible default for most people trying to conceive: proven formulation, easy to find, easy to afford, easy to stick with daily. It particularly suits anyone who has not previously had trouble tolerating multivitamins and wants a straightforward, well-evidenced option rather than a boutique one. If you have a sensitive stomach, have found synthetic vitamins nauseating before, or specifically want methylfolate rather than folic acid, it is worth looking at the Wild Nutrition alternative instead.

The real limitation here is the tablet itself — it is on the larger side, and a few people find it a bit much to swallow first thing in the morning, especially once early pregnancy nausea sets in. The formula also uses standard folic acid rather than the active methylfolate form some people prefer or are advised to take for genetic reasons (such as MTHFR variants) — worth discussing with a GP if that applies to you.

What we liked

  • Well-evidenced, NHS-familiar formulation
  • Widely stocked and easy to repurchase
  • Strong value at under £13 a month
  • Covers folic acid, zinc and vitamin D essentials

Where it falls short

  • Tablet is large and can be hard to swallow
  • Uses standard folic acid, not methylfolate
  • Not the gentlest option for sensitive stomachs
