The six highchairs we've tested split cleanly into two camps: full-size, floor-standing chairs and compact ones that clamp to your own dining table. The IKEA Antilop sits at one extreme — £10, three pieces that separate for a proper wash, no recline or height adjustment — while the Joie Mimzy Snacker clamps onto a suitable table edge, folds flat, and weighs about 3.6kg, trading floor space for four times the price and a fussier clean since food gets into the clamp mechanism and seams.
In between sit the multi-stage converters. The Cosatto Noodle 0+ and Chicco Polly Progres5 both start as a reclining newborn seat and grow into a full highchair (the Noodle through five recline positions and seven heights, the Polly through five configurations up to a youth chair), while the Joie Multiply 6in1 does the same job more cheaply with a detachable booster mode, at the cost of a less padded seat that shows wear faster. The Stokke Tripp Trapp is the outlier: a solid beech chair that isn't a highchair until you add the separate Baby Set, but keeps working as an ordinary dining chair long after weaning ends.
None of that makes one design objectively "better" — it comes down to whether you have permanent floor space, a table edge that suits a clamp fit, or want a single chair that lasts years rather than months.

If you just want something safe, cheap and easy to keep clean for the weaning months, the IKEA Antilop is hard to beat at £10. Tight on kitchen space or need something portable? The Joie Mimzy Snacker's table-clamp and flat fold suit small flats and trips to grandparents' better than any floor-standing chair here. Want one chair to cover newborn through toddler without buying a separate seat first, the Cosatto Noodle 0+ or Chicco Polly Progres5 do that job, while the Joie Multiply 6in1 gets you most of the same flexibility more cheaply. If you'd rather buy once and keep the chair for years, the Stokke Tripp Trapp is the only one built to outlast weaning entirely.
