Egg3 Stroller

The egg3 is the newest version of BabyStyle's signature one-piece moulded seat shell, a design that has stayed largely unchanged in silhouette since the original egg because it works: a smooth, wipeable shell with no visible stitching, all-round suspension, and puncture-free Tru-Ride tyres that handle kerbs and gravel with less fuss than a standard three-wheel setup. It ships as a pushchair-only unit; a carrycot and the matching egg3 Shell i-Size infant car seat are sold separately, which is worth budgeting for up front rather than treating as an afterthought.

Against the other pushchairs in this category, the egg3 sits closer to the iCandy Peach 7 and Silver Cross Reef 2 on price and build quality than to the budget-focused Joie Litetrax 3, but its car seat compatibility is narrower out of the box. Where the Peach 7 and Fox 5 both work with a wide range of third-party adaptors as standard, the egg3's own-brand Shell car seat is the path of least resistance, and while multi-brand adaptors for Maxi-Cosi, Cybex and Peg Perego seats are available, they are an extra purchase most buyers don't realise they need until checkout.

This suits parents who want a pushchair that looks and feels distinct from the sea of near-identical three- and four-wheelers, and who don't mind paying a premium for that. The one-hand fold and free-standing chassis are genuinely convenient day to day, and the shell's smooth surfaces wipe clean far more easily than fabric seat units.

The honest downsides: at a chassis weight of 9.7kg and around 13.5kg with the seat attached, it's heavier than the Litetrax 3 and comparable to the Fox 5, so it's not the easiest to lift in and out of a car boot. The price also climbs quickly once you add the carrycot and car seat needed to use it from birth, putting a full travel system bundle well above the Reef 2's starting price for a broadly similar level of everyday usability.
