Childs Farm
SPF 50+ Sun Cream 100ml
8.7/10 overall£12.00
A fragrance-free, high-SPF everyday sun cream that's cheap enough to slather on liberally, which is exactly what babies need.
Childs Farm's SPF 50+ sun cream is the one we'd tell a sleep-deprived parent to just buy without overthinking it. It's fragrance-free, dermatologically tested, and formulated for sensitive skin from birth, which covers you for both a newborn and an older sibling sharing the same bottle. At roughly £12 for 100ml it's also one of the cheapest SPF50+ options on the UK high street, and price matters more than it sounds here: sun cream only works if you use enough of it, and a cheap bottle gets reapplied generously while an expensive one gets rationed.
Against Green People's organic SPF30 cream in this same category, the trade-off is straightforward: Childs Farm gives you a higher SPF rating and a much lower price, while Green People uses a more "natural" ingredient list (non-nano mineral filters, certified organic) that some parents specifically look for. If your baby has no particular sensitivity and you just want maximum protection for minimum cost, Childs Farm wins. If avoiding synthetic filters is a priority regardless of price, Green People is the better fit.
This is best for parents who want a reliable, all-purpose sun cream to keep in the changing bag and reapply often without worrying about cost. It's sold in Boots, Superdrug and most supermarkets, so it's easy to restock mid-holiday if you run out.
The one real limitation: like most lotion-format sun creams, it needs a genuine two-hand rub-in to get even coverage on a moving target, and Childs Farm doesn't make a spray version of this exact SPF50+ formula in as many sizes as some competitors, so top-up bottles for a nursery bag or holiday suitcase are more limited than with spray-first brands.
What we liked

- Widely stocked in UK supermarkets and pharmacies
Where it falls short
- Lotion format needs thorough rubbing in on a wriggling baby
- Fewer size/format options than some competitor ranges
- Not a mineral-only formula, so contains chemical UV filters
