i-Snug 2 i-Size Infant Car Seat

The i-Snug 2 is Joie's entry-level i-Size infant carrier, and its main selling point is straightforward: at around £104.95 it costs roughly a third of the Cybex Cloud T or Nuna Pipa Urbn in this category, and it's noticeably cheaper than the Silver Cross Dream and BeSafe iZi Go Modular X1 too. At approximately 3.35kg it's also among the lightest seats here, similar to the Maxi-Cosi CabrioFix (3.2kg) and considerably lighter than the Cloud T (6.1kg) or Nuna Pipa Urbn (4.0kg) — a real consideration if you're lifting a sleeping baby out of the car several times a day.

Like the CabrioFix and Silver Cross Dream, the i-Snug 2 is ECE R129 (i-Size) certified for babies from birth up to 75cm, and it can be installed either with the car's own three-point seatbelt or with Joie's optional i-Base Encore/i-Base 2 ISOFIX base, sold separately. That's a genuine point of difference from the Cybex, Nuna and BeSafe seats in this category, which are built around ISOFIX bases as the primary (or only sensible) fitting method — the i-Snug 2 gives you a proper i-Size seat you can use in a second car, a taxi, or a grandparent's car without needing to buy a second base, at the cost of a slightly fiddlier belt installation each time compared with clicking into a permanently fitted ISOFIX base.

Where it clearly gives ground to the pricier seats is comfort and convenience features: there's no lie-flat recline like the Cloud T, no load-leg stabiliser like the Pipa Urbn, and no magnetic buckle or modular toddler-seat upgrade path like the BeSafe. It's a simple, fixed semi-upright shell with a removable newborn insert and a basic recline for the base — functional and properly safety-tested, but not aiming to compete on refinement with the premium end of this category.

For parents who want a certified, lightweight, budget infant seat — particularly as a second seat, a starter seat before moving to a heavier-duty travel system component, or simply because budget is the priority — the i-Snug 2 does the core safety job at a fraction of the price of the other seats here. Buyers who want lie-flat recline, one-handed magnetic buckles, or built-in load-leg stability will find better answers elsewhere in this category, but they'll pay for it.
