The Maya is a low-to-the-ground toddler bed with a two-tone white and natural wood finish and side guards built into the frame rather than sold as an add-on. It's designed to be the next step after a cot or cot bed, sized for a standard 140 x 70cm mattress.

Against the IKEA Kritter and Sniglar beds already in this category, Maya sits at a similar price point but with built-in guard rails as standard — Sniglar in particular needs a separate rail purchase to match that. Against the Stokke Home Bed, Maya is a fraction of the price but loses the expandability and premium build that justify Stokke's cost; Maya is sized for one stage rather than growing with the child over several years.

The main limitation is that the guard rails are fixed rather than adjustable or removable in stages, so unlike some pricier beds you can't gradually reduce the rail height as your toddler gets more confident getting in and out — it's rail-on or rail-off, no in-between. Flat-pack assembly is required, as with most beds in this range.

It's a solid mid-market pick for parents who want a proper toddler bed with a bit more design flair than the budget IKEA options, without paying Stokke-level prices.

How we scored it

Guard Rail Safety

How well the rail prevents night-time falls without making the bed hard to get in and out of.

7/10

Guard rails are built in and fixed rather than adjustable, so they don't step down in height the way some premium beds do as a child gets older.

Cot Transition Ease

How smoothly toddlers adjust from a cot to this bed, including familiarity of size and height.

8/10

Build Durability

Sturdiness of the frame and how well the finish holds up to daily knocks.
